…Wie die Wellenreiter in dem Video, das Hanspeter Hofmann vor einiger Zeit gleichsam als Kommentar zu seiner Arbeit fertigstellte, lässt er sich von einem fliessenden Elementarsystem tragen, folgt dem Impuls der Wellen um sich im nächsten Moment, eine Kurve reissend, hoch aufzuschwingen, ruhig weiterzugleiten oder unvermittelt wegzutauchen. Hanspeter Hofmann stellt keine fassbare Bildwelt dar, sondern erforscht empirische Zustände, wie sie sich immer wieder neu aus dem spielerischen Umgang mit der von ihm festgelegten Matrixstruktur ergeben. Diese Struktur ist eher Hilfmittel, denn Urbild. Sie ist die Unbekannte X in einer modellhaften Gleichung, die es möglich macht, sich einer Welt zu nähern, deren Bedeutung nicht in der Referenz auf einen tieferen Sinn ergründet, sondern von aussen, über die Oberfläche erfahren werden will…

...Like the surfers in the video that Hanspeter Hofmann made a while ago as a kind of commentary on his work, he is himself carried by a flowing, elemental system, following the impulse of the waves so that the next moment, executing a turn, he can soar upwards, glide peacefully on or dive away immediately. Hanspeter Hofmann does not present a tangible pictorial world, but explores empirical circumstances as they continue to arise from his playful handing of the matrix structure that he has established. This structure is more of an aid than a primal image. It is the unknown X in a model equation that makes it possible to approch a world whose significance is not to be ascertained by reference to deeper meaning, but from the outside, via the surface...
